Time is flying by so fast with two kids, it's scary. Sophie is 10 months old already, and crawling all over the place. She's new into the pulling up game, too, and very proud of herself when she does, although she often doesn't know how to sit back down again. She is still all smiles, all the time -- I don't know how I got so lucky, and I keep thinking it will have to change at some point (or she'll be a difficult teenager, right?), but she seems to have just been born that way. She does need her sleep, and the few times she gets cranky are when she's missed a nap or late for bed, but even then, she rallies. You can see it -- she's SO tired, and this huge yawn comes out, and she's rubbing her eyes and starting to whine, but all you have to do is get in her face and smile and she rallies and smiles again. She's incredibly social, and also very pleased that she now recently knows how to both wave and clap. And man, does she have an appetite -- I order her her own kids meal when we go out to eat, and she usually eats more than Henry.
Henry is a bundle of energy, and flat out refuses to take naps these days, though I can still sometimes trick him to sleep in the afternoon in the car, then stealthily transport him to his bed. Even at night he resists going to bed -- he's having too much fun doing things to want to stop. He's fascinated by everything -- all the different kinds of flowers popping up this spring and what each of their names are (I guess I need to buy a Peterson's guide soon), how are vegetable garden is growing (so far, it is), those tiny little red bugs crawling on the rocks in the backyard, what things float, the way things fit together, the way things come apart...he's also getting big into the "I can do it all by myself" phase, which is both wonderful and frustrating (great that he wants to go down the slide or walk to the playground or clear his plate or get in his carseat by himself -- more difficult when he wants to open his juice box or put on his pants). Tonight he spent the evening at Elijah's house (who is 6), chasing him and Nick around and carrying a light saber, or a sword, and I could see him really looking up to the "big boys," and I thought, my god, he's growing up.
Well said.
